Palazzo Marletta is a Boutique Hotel in the historic center of Catania, there are many attractions and monuments close to our structure, a strategic point to organize your excursions and tours.
Catania is one of the most beautiful and historic cities in Sicily, which is why UNESCO declared the city center a world heritage.
Palazzo Marletta overlooks onto Piazza Duomo, marked by the emblem of the city: the “Elephant Fountain”, the ‘Liotru’ of the people of Catania. Here we also find the cathedral dedicated to Saint Agatha which houses the relics of the saint patron and a magnificent fresco by Giacinto Platania, that recalls one of the most terrible cataclysmic events in the city: the lava flow of 1669.
Always near we remember the Ancient Theater (Roman Theater of the II sec. A. C.), a key stage to know the history of the city. Renovation in recent years has revealed an unexpected building able to tell the long and dense history of Catania.
If you are passionate about Catania’s Baroque style, don’t miss Via Crociferi, a world heritage site for the baroque of its churches.
These include: the magnificent San Benedetto’s church, San Francesco Borgia of the Jesuits’s church, San Giuliano and San Camillo’s churches.
But above all, on top of them, on the hill, the Benedictine monastery complex, one of the largest in Europe.
Not far away, the Ursino Castle rises, suggestive and full of history, it is the glorious testimony of the relationship between the city and Federico II (Piazza Federico di Svevia).
Inside is located the interesting Civic Museum of Catania. We also remember the attractions dedicated to Vincenzo Bellini, besides the composer’s museum, to him is dedicated the magnificent Opera’s theater built at the end of the 19th century.
The theater, one of the best in Europe for acoustics, retains the charm of time and jealously guards the magic of opera.
But there are so many things to see in Catania. Here are other tips you can’t miss!
